LETTERS IN TIME (DVD)

by Simfonica

  • DVD

    Each piece that makes up “Letters In Time” is inspired by a significant letter from modern history:

    “J’Accuse” reflects on Emile Zola’s open letter to the President of France in 1898;
    “From A Birmingham Jail” – Martin Luther King’s letter from 1963;
    “A Soldier’s Declaration” – Siegfried Sassoon’s 1917 anti-war statement, later printed in The Times; and
    “De Profundis” – Oscar Wilde’s 1897 letter to Lord Alfred Douglas from Reading Gaol.

    ["From A Birmingham Jail" is currently playing on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kebLDVaezg) as a taster for the DVD.]

    Trevor Midgley says, “Releasing “Letters In Time” as an audio CD would have presented no complications at all. However, the set was originally conceived as an audio/visual experience; and this has proved a problem. One German company was prepared to consider releasing a 48-minute standalone concept electronica DVD but, because of the political content on two of the tracks, eventually felt unable to do so. However, they did feel moved to comment…

    ‘You have created a very brilliant sound there. It is amazing to experience how you combine audible and visual aesthetics in order to illustrate your reflection of the individual topics. In my opinion it works very well. You must have spent many hours to create this fantastic audio visual piece of art. Great respect for that.’

    For this reason, I’ve decided to issue the DVD under my own TM Studios marque. For the sake of clarification – and because it’s been queried more than once in the past! – there is absolutely no sampling on this album. Every note you hear is Simfonica-played; prior, that is, to serious modification and processing! I hope we’ve put that one to bed…”
